Courses Structure

Courses are divided into:

  • Compulsory courses (C),
    which are mandatory for all undergraduate students.
  • Elective-Compulsory courses(E.C.),
    are the courses that students can select from a list of offered courses
  • Optional courses(O)

The basic cognitive fields of study include:

1. Courses of General Content from the fields of Education, Psychology, and Medical Studies, such as: Introduction to the Science of Education, Introduction to Psychology, Statistics, Introduction to Sociology, Preschool Education and PC, Modern Greek Language, Environmental Education, Aesthetic Education – History of Arts, Health Education, and Elements of Anatomy-Physiology.

2. Courses of Specialised Content, which provide students with basic knowledge about the specialty of Preschool Educators, such as: Current Trends in Preschool Pedagogy, Comparative Education, Clinical Psychology, Social Psychology, Social Pedagogy, Introduction to Children’s Literature, Pediatrics, Developmental Pediatrics, Baby Care, Developmental Psychology of Infancy and Early Childhood, Preschool Pedagogy, Research Methodology, Educational Psychology, Theory and Methodology of Preschool Education, Elements of Sociology of Education, and Social Welfare.

3. Specialty Courses,which offer students the necessary knowledge regarding the practice of their profession, such as: Baby Care, Music Education, Fine Arts, Music and Movement Education, Puppet Theatre, Role Play, Educational Materials, Children’s Literature, Special Education, Counseling Psychology, and Neurophysiology.

4. Courses of Economy Administration, Legislation and Humanitarian Study, which are required for the organization and administration of workplaces related to the specialty of Preschool Educators, such as: Information Economy and Crèche Management, Administration of Children’s Centres, Elements of Law and Justice, and Intercultural Education.

The curriculum structure is based on each student’s work-load in every semester, while ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) credits are allocated to all courses in every semester so that students can be evaluated at an international level as well.

A course can be either Theoretical or Mixed-Content (that is, it can combine theory and laboratory work).

Theoretical courses provide general information about a field of study along with related research questions. Laboratory work in mixed-content courses offers students the opportunity to practice the application of theoretical, professional or technological methods, to manage technical systems, to work in groups, to compose descriptive reports etc in small groups and under the supervision and guidance of the teaching staff so that students can develop the necessary skills. Every semester students are divided in small groups of approximately 20 people for laboratory work.
